Four Signs You Need New Tires

Is it time for you to get new tires? If you’re not sure, do you know how to check? Never fear, because Argonaut Garage is here to help you with all of your tire needs, including spotting when you might need new ones.

The Tires Have Looked Better

Appearances aren’t everything, but when it comes to your tires, appearances can matter more than you think. In terms of your car’s tires, they should not look exceptionally weathered and the sidewalls shouldn’t have a lot of scuffs. Also, if you’re seeing bulges or blisters, that’s a sign that you might be at risk of a blowout.

You’re Routinely Adding Air to the Tires

The air pressure in your tires is not going to stay consistent, that’s just a fact of life. Ideally, the air pressure should be close to the air pressure recommended in your car’s owner’s manual. You can also get that number from the sticker on the inside of the driver’s side door. Don’t just rely on the tire pressure monitoring system to clue you in to low pressure. Check the pressure yourself every couple of weeks, just to be sure.

The Car’s Handling Is Bad

Your car should drive smoothly with no vibrations, wobbles, or tugs on the steering wheel that you have to fight. If you’re noticing that handling is bad as you’re driving, it’s very possible that there’s something wrong with your car’s tires. It’s very important to make sure that you check your tires if your handling changes, because there may be something seriously off.

You’re Seeing Uneven or Missing Tread

When you check the air pressure in your tires, make it a habit to also check the tread yourself. Look for any spots that seem more worn than the rest of the tire tread. Also look to see if there are items stuck in the tread or whether chunks of tread are missing from the tire. All of these are serious issues that affect how well your tires function and how long they’re likely to last.Give us a call at Argonaut Garage in Berkeley, CA if you need a little help deciphering what’s going on with your tires.
